Module 8: Dialogue and Dialogic Processes in Holistic Education
Module description:
In relation to a working definition of the process of holistic development this module looks at the nature of, and use of, the idea of ‘dialogue’ by the teacher, or other practitioner, so as to encourage learning, professional development and/or personal growth.
“D. is not like other forms of communication (chatting, arguing, negotiating, and so on). D. is an activity directed toward discovery and new understanding, which stands to improve the knowledge, insight, or sensitivity of its participants.” Burbules, N.C., (1993) Dialogue in Teaching; Theory & Practice , NY, Teachers College Press.
